IIT Kharagpur: B. Tech Student Found Deceased in Hostel; Third since January
A B.Tech student was found deceased in his hostel room at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur campus in West Bengal during the early hours of Sunday, May 4th. The student, identified as Mohammad Asif Qamar, a 22-year-old third-year student hailing from Bihar, was discovered after classmates became concerned when he did not respond to calls or answer his phone on Saturday night. Institute officials subsequently informed the police. Authorities broke open the door to his room in the Madan Mohan Malviya Hall around 3:30 AM on Sunday and found him deceased. The room was reportedly locked from the inside. While suicide is suspected, officials state that police are investigating all potential angles surrounding the death. The student's body was transported to a local hospital where he was declared dead, and subsequently sent for a post-mortem examination.
