Ujjain, Ap 10: A three-year-old boy, Bhagirath Devasi, fell into a borewell on Thursday night in Jhalaria village of Badnagar tehsil, approximately 60 kilometres from Ujjain. Authorities have launched a massive rescue operation to save him.
The child, son of shepherd Praveen Devasi, fell into the borewell around 8 pm while peering into it after the stone cover was dislodged by a sheep. His mother, working nearby, witnessed the accident and alerted others, who contacted the police and administration.
Collector Roshan Kumar Singh and Superintendent of Police Pradeep Sharma reached the site immediately. Rescue efforts involve six Pocklain and JCB machines, with a parallel pit being dug by a 65-member SDRF team to reach the child, who is trapped at a depth of about 70 feet. Bhopal and Indore rescue teams have also been called in.
A camera has located Bhagirath, though the image remains blurry due to the depth. Oxygen is being supplied through a pipe to ensure he can breathe. About 35 feet of parallel digging has been completed so far.
Bhagirath is the youngest of three sons of Praveen Devasi, a shepherd from Pali, Rajasthan, who had come to the Malwa region with his flock. His father is currently in Pali, while his elder brothers, Hitesh (8) and Kuldeep (6), are studying there.
Authorities are conducting the rescue operation on a war footing, hoping to bring the child to safety as quickly as possible.
