Berhampur, July 23: At least three people lost their lives in a diarrhoea outbreak in Damapur village under Sanakhemundi block of Odisha's Ganjam district.
The deceased have been identified as Sambaru Mallick, Kandara Mallick, and Sukri Mallick.
Sources said that Sambaru and Kandara had been receiving treatment for diarrhoea since Saturday. However, their condition worsened on Tuesday following which they died.
Sukri, who was urgently taken to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur in critical condition, also passed away on the same day.
A medical team was sent to the area to manage the situation and offer treatment. Healthcare workers have started giving villagers Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) packets and are advising them to drink only boiled water to prevent further illness.
A team from the Adapada Community Health Centre (CHC) also visited the village to assess the situation.
Early findings suggest the outbreak might be linked to eating bamboo shoots and wild mushrooms. Health authorities are still investigating to determine the exact cause.
