Describing tourism as a major driver of economic growth, employment generation and entrepreneurship, the governor said the sector contributes to the development of several allied industries, including hospitality, transportation, handicrafts, local food businesses, agriculture and small enterprises. He emphasised that tourism development should create livelihood opportunities for local people while ensuring the protection of their cultural identity and traditions.
Goevrnor Ram also highlighted the major tourist attractions of the state, including Jagannath Temple at Puri, the Sun Temple at Konark, the ancient temples of Bhubaneswar, Chilika Lake, the state’s extensive coastline, Buddhist heritage, tribal traditions and wildlife resources.
He said initiatives undertaken by the state government to improve tourism infrastructure, attract investment and develop new tourist destinations, along with various Central government schemes, would create fresh opportunities for the sector.
The state's constitutional head also stressed the need to improve connectivity, accommodation, basic amenities, workforce skills and digital promotion while developing eco-tourism, spiritual tourism, adventure tourism and MICE tourism. He also emphasised balancing tourism growth with environmental conservation and ensuring active participation of local communities.
Responsible tourism, he said, would create new opportunities for young people, strengthen local economies and give wider recognition to Odisha’s rich cultural heritage. He expressed confidence that these efforts would contribute to the vision of Viksit Odisha and Viksit Bharat.
The governor congratulated the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Odisha and the organisers for bringing the government, tourism industry and investors together on a common platform through the conclave. He expressed hope that such discussions would help translate Odisha’s tourism potential into policy initiatives and concrete action plans.
