Bhubaneswar, Oct 23: As a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm, brining heavy to heavy rainfall to Odisha, the Department of Water Resources today instructed officials to closely monitor reservoir levels, river flows, and rainfall forecasts.
Shubha Sarma, Water Resources Secretary, reviewed the Department's preparedness and response arrangements. All Engineers-in-Chief, Chief Engineers and Basin Managers participated in the meeting.
Sarma directed all concerned officials to return to flood management mode, with particular emphasis on ensuring the safety and operational readiness of dams, reservoirs, barrages, river embankments and other water infrastructure across the State.
Officials were instructed to closely monitor reservoir levels, river flows, and rainfall forecasts; adhere to established reservoir operation protocols; and undertake regular inspections of vulnerable stretches.
Emphasis was also placed on field-level readiness, availability of necessary resources and effective communication with district administrations and other concerned agencies.
