Bhubaneswar, September 8: In a major initiative aimed at strengthening industrial safety and promoting a culture of accident prevention across factories in Odisha, the state government has released “Surakshya Setu: Industrial Safety & Risk Management Manual.”
The manual was formally released by the Minister for Forest, Environment & Climate Change, Labour & Employees’ State Insurance Minister Ganesh Ram Singkhuntia.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister stressed the importance of making safety knowledge widely available to industries and workers to prevent workplace accidents.
“Widespread dissemination of safety knowledge will enable industrial establishments, workers and employees to identify and eliminate unsafe practices and conditions in their workplaces,” Singkhuntia said.
He emphasised that achieving the goal of zero industrial accidents in Odishawould require the active participation of all stakeholders.
“I am confident that industries across Odisha will benefit from this manual and effectively implement its guidelines to enhance workplace safety,” he added.
Developed as a practical and user-friendly reference guide, the Surakshya Setu manual is intended for workers, supervisors, safety professionals, managers and others involved in industrial operations. It provides accessible guidance on key aspects of workplace safety and risk management.
The manual covers essential areas including workplace safety, hazard identification, risk assessment, safe work procedures, accident prevention and emergency preparedness. The information has been presented in a simple and accessible format to facilitate its adoption across industrial establishments.
Officials said the publication is expected to strengthen safety awareness and encourage safer working practices among employees and other stakeholders. It is also aimed at helping industries build a stronger safety-oriented culture and create healthier and safer workplaces across the state.
The release ceremony was attended by Dodda Venkat Swamy, Principal Secretary, Labour & ESI Department, Odisha; Indramani Tripathy, Labour Commissioner, Odisha and Director of Factories & Boilers; and Dr. Malaya Kumar Pradhan, Deputy Director (Safety), among others.
The initiative underlines the Labour & ESI Department’s continued efforts to improve worker safety, prevent industrial accidents and promote safe and healthy working conditions across Odisha.
