Sambalpur, May 17: In a disturbing incident early this morning, the Tapaswini Express (18452) was targeted by miscreants who pelted stones at the train.
The incident occurred near the Rangali station, near Lappanga, while the train was en route from Puri to Hatia.
Sources said, after the train passed Sambalpur City Station, passengers in the AC coach were struck with panic as they heard loud sounds, and some began screaming. The rear window of the AC coach was shattered due to stone-pelting.
Initially, several passengers mistook the noise for gunshots and began alerting others, which led to further panic. Upon reaching the affected coach, the train attendant confirmed that the window had been completely shattered.
The incident was immediately reported to the Railway Police (GRP), who has since initiated an investigation. While the exact motive behind the attack is still unclear, the GRP has launched a thorough inquiry to uncover the details.
This is not the first instance of stone-pelting in Sambalpur.
Previously, trains passing through Rangali Station have been targeted multiple times. In fact, just a few months ago, a similar attack near Jagannath Colony resulted in one passenger being injured.
