Bhubaneswar, September 22: Dhenkanal Police on Tuesday detained two persons for allegedly harassing a young tourist couple travelling to the famous Kapilash Temple in Odisha's Dhenkanal district, an official said.

Police registered a case and detained the two accused after taking cognisance of a video of the alleged incident that was widely circulated on social media.

The incident took place on an isolated stretch of the road leading to the hilltop Shiva temple at Kapilash, a popular tourist and religious destination in Dhenkanal district.

The purported video showed a group of people allegedly intercepting the couple, who were travelling on a motorcycle, and assaulting the man. The woman could be heard shouting for help.

Police subsequently initiated action against the alleged perpetrators and detained two persons in connection with the incident.

However, the authenticity of the video and the circumstances surrounding the incident could not be independently verified.
