India secures Asian Games shooting bronze with strong team performance
Indian shooters Raiza Dhillon, Parinaaz Dhaliwal, and Maheshwari Chauhan secured a bronze medal in the women’s skeet team competition on Wednesday at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026. Their combined effort produced an aggregate total of 331 points, placing India third on the podium behind gold medalists China, who posted 346, and silver medalists Kazakhstan.
Dhillon and Dhaliwal each delivered identical scores of 111 out of 125 targets. Chauhan rounded out the squad's total by adding 109 points. This result brought India its sixth shooting medal at the ongoing continental showpiece, reinforcing the country's steady dominance in shotgun and precision disciplines over recent international cycles.
Two-time Olympic medalist Manu Bhaker also made headlines by qualifying for the women’s 10m air pistol individual final following a dominant display in the preliminary rounds. Fellow Indian competitors Suruchi Inder Singh and Esha Singh failed to advance after falling short in the qualification phase.
Indian athletes registered further progress across water sports during the morning sessions. Rower Balraj Panwar sealed a spot in Final A of the men’s single sculls after finishing third in his heat with a time of 6:52.84, which placed him fourth overall across both heats. Satnam Singh and Salman Khan matched that qualification success in the men’s double sculls, taking second place in their heat at 6:15.63.
Canoeing and kayaking athletes delivered solid results as well. Harshwardhan Shaktawat, Varinder Singh, L Naocha Singh Oinam, and Arun Singh reached the men’s kayak four 500m final with a third-place heat time of 1:29.447. Megha Pradeep moved into the women’s canoe single 200m semi-finals, while Parvathy Geetha and Phairembam Soniya Devi advanced in the women’s kayak double 500m.
