Bhubaneswar, May 28: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday said that the Southwest monsoon has advanced into some parts of Odisha, 13 days earlier than the usual onset date of June 10.
As per reports, the monsoon mainly affected the southern part of Odisha and covered all of Malkangiri and Koraput districts, along with some areas of Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Rayagada, and Gajapati districts.
The IMD said that the southwest monsoon has moved further into more parts of Maharashtra, the rest of Karnataka, most of Telangana, the remaining parts of Andhra Pradesh, some parts of Chhattisgarh and Odisha, and the remaining areas of the west-central Bay of Bengal today.
Weather conditions are favorable for the southwest monsoon to spread to the rest of the northeastern states and some parts of West Bengal and Sikkim in the next 2 days, the IMD added.
Notably, the monsoon arrived in Odisha four days earlier than usual in 2024 and reached parts of Malkangiri district.
On Tuesday, the IMD had said that Odisha is likely to get more rainfall than normal during this year's monsoon season, which lasts from June to September.
