Bhubaneswar, Dec 20: Odisha's Minister for PR & DW, Rural Development, Rabi Narayan Naik, inaugurated the much-anticipated Sargiful Utsav 2024 at the Exhibition Ground in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday.
The event was launched in the presence of key officials including Dr. Poma Tudu, Director of ST, Laxman Ku Mallick, Director of SC, Banita Dash, FA-cum-Additional Secretary, and Narayan Dhal, Additional Secretary.
Addressing the attendees, primarily ST/SC students, Naik spoke about the cultural significance of the Sargiful festival, organized by the ST&SC Development, Minorities & Backward Classes Welfare Department. He highlighted the deep connection of tribals with nature, noting that they have historically used the Sargiful (Sal Flower) as both food and a sacred object, which they later began to worship as a symbol of inspiration.
“The Sargiful festival was started to foster creativity among the youth. Our children have the skills and potential to represent the state. The main objective of this event is to showcase their inherent talents, qualities, and creativity,” Naik said.
During the ceremony, several individuals were honored for their outstanding contributions. Mili Tudu from Jagatsinghpur, Suprabha Naik, Mahesh Mahar, Nandini Naik, Chumki Naik, and Lovely Naik from Kalahandi, Krishna Tudu from Khordha, Suneli Pradhan from Sambalpur, Rashmita Bhatra from Nabarangpur, and Kabita Gamang from Gajapati were awarded with a cash prize of Rs. 5,000, along with certificates and books by the Minister.
Additionally, the Minister inaugurated the state-level science exhibition, featuring 80 students and 40 guide teachers across 40 stalls. The exhibition will host workshops over three days, focusing on themes such as ocean ecosystem conservation, eco-friendly environments, artificial intelligence, Indian space research, and smart classrooms.
