Bhubaneswar, Oct 8: Famous poet, RN Tagore’s ‘Pather Puri’ home in Odisha’s Puri shrine, will be developed as a heritage.
Odisha Minister for Odia Language & Culture, Suryavanshi Suraj informed it on Wednesday.
While underlining the historical significance of the ‘Pather Puri’ shortstay home of the eminent poet, Suraj said the Odisha government is all set to restore the Nobel laureate’s Puri house.
Very shortly it will be developed as a grand museum, and the sonnets of his major creation ‘Geetanjali’ will be well preserved here, the minister said.
The decision in this regard was taken at a high-level review meeting held under the chairmanship of Minister of Odia Language, Literature and Culture Department, Suryavanshi Suraj.
According to Coordinator of Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (Intach), Anil Dhir, the ‘Pather Puri’ building once upon a time was an outstate abode of the great litterateur. Situated at Chakratirtha Road in Puri town, it was gifted to Tagore in 1939 by Prime Minister of Odisha of British India. However, Tagore’s successors later donated the land and the building they had built here, to the Odisha government to utilize for social cause.
The building yet stands in a dilapidated condition though earlier utilized as SCS College hostel. The makeover of the ‘Pather Puri’ house will preserve and promote the memories and social services of the Biswakabi, Dhir added.
