Bhubaneswar, Sep 8: Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari today stressed the need to accelerate the implementation of the Basundhara Yojana to ensure that eligible homeless families across Odisha receive homestead land at the earliest.
The Basundhara scheme is being implemented with the objective of identifying landless and homestead-less families through surveys and providing eligible beneficiaries with land for construction of their own homes.
The Revenue Minister has emphasized the need to remove bottlenecks in the land-allotment process and make the implementation of the scheme more efficient.
According to the preliminary survey conducted in 2024, a total of 42,915 homestead-less persons were identified across the state. Following verification, 33,082 persons were found eligible, and land has already been allotted in favour of 30,653 beneficiaries.
Similarly, the preliminary survey conducted in 2025 identified 58,620 homestead-less persons. After verification, 11,827 persons were found eligible under the scheme. Of these, 3,598 beneficiaries have already been provided land, while the allotment process for the remaining 8,229 eligible beneficiaries is currently underway.
Over the past two years, preliminary surveys identified a total of 1,01,535 homestead-less persons in Odisha. Following verification, 44,909 persons were found eligible. So far, land has been allotted to 34,251 beneficiaries, while the remaining 10,658 eligible beneficiaries will be provided land in phases.
Minister Pujari has directed greater attention towards resolving issues affecting land allotment.
Detailed discussions have been held on various challenges in the implementation of the Basundhara scheme, with the objective of ensuring that eligible beneficiaries do not face unnecessary delays.
The government is also considering the need to reassess the existing annual family income ceiling for eligible homestead-less beneficiaries. At present, the income limit stands at Rs. 1 lakh per annum, and the possibility of revising this limit is under consideration.
