Sambalpur, June 13: Odisha Vigilance officials on Thursday apprehended Goudpalli Revenue Inspector (RI) Bhisma Pradhan while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000 from a complainant in connection with a land lease case.
According to vigilance officials, Pradhan had been demanding the bribe in exchange for submitting a favorable report for the issuance of ROR (Record of Rights/Land Patta) in favour of the complainant and his family members. The complainant had reportedly been following up on the matter with Pradhan since November 2024 but was continuously met with bribe demands.
Unable to get relief through official means, the complainant finally approached Odisha Vigilance. Acting on the complaint, a vigilance team laid a trap and caught Pradhan red-handed while accepting the bribe amount. The entire tainted money was recovered from his possession and seized.
Following the successful trap, simultaneous searches are underway at two locations linked to Pradhan to assess any disproportionate assets. A case has been registered at Sambalpur Vigilance Police Station under Case No. 12 dated 11.06.2025, under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as amended in 2018.
The investigation is currently ongoing, and further details are awaited.
