Rented, then sold: Tenant arrested for fraudulent car sale in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, Oct 28: Capital Police have arrested a man named Adarsh Mahima Acharya from Adhaikula village under Raghunathpur police station in Jagatsinghpur district on charges of fraudulently renting and selling a car. The police have successfully recovered the vehicle.

According to reports, Gourav Maharana lives with his family at Plot No. A/1 in Unit-7. Adarsh had been renting the upper floor of their house for a year. Noticing that a car registered in Gourav's father Rabindra's name mostly remained parked at home, Adarsh proposed renting it on a daily rate of Rs. 1,300, and a deal was finalized.

Instead of operating the car on rent, Adarsh illegally sold it for Rs. 3,70,000 to Banoj Kumar Pattnaik of Durgabazar Colony under Daspalla police station in Nayagarh district. The sale agreement lacked the signature or consent of the original owner, Rabindra. Later, Priyakanta Samal of Kunhapatana Sahi, Old Bhubaneswar, bought the car from Banoj. The fraudulent chain came to light when Priyakanta attempted to sell the car to Biswaranjan Mishra, drawing police attention. The vehicle was subsequently seized by the police from Lingaraj Motors in Old Bhubaneswar, and questioning of the motors owner and Priyakanta exposed Adarsh's elaborate scam.
