Puri, Baleshwar lead Odisha's Adventure Tourism push

Bhubaneswar, July 6: Odisha is steadily positioning itself as one of the leading adventure tourism destinations in the country as Puri and Baleshwar have emerged as the most preferred destinations for investments in the adventure tourism sector in the State.

According to official data, a total of 27 proposals have been received through the ‘Go Adventure’ portal for developing land-, water and aero-based adventure tourism projects in Baleshwar, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Sundargarh, Koraput, Mayurbhanj and Sambalpur.

Puri has received the highest number of proposals (12), followed by Balasore (6) and Koraput (4). Officials said the initiative will strengthen tourism infrastructure, attract private investment, create employment opportunities and position Odisha as a leading adventure tourism destination.

Out of the 27 proposals, 16 applications were for aero-based adventure while 10 were for water sports.

For the context, on February 24, the State Government launched the ‘Go-Adventure’ portal for registration, verification and licensing of adventure tourism projects in a significant step towards positioning Odisha as a premier adventure tourism hub in eastern India.

The State Government also launched an ambitious initiative to promote adventure tourism under the Odisha Tourism Policy-2026, aiming to make the State India's top tourism destination by 2029.

Earlier this year, the Tourism Department took a significant step towards positioning the State as a safe and premier adventure tourism destination by formalizing strategic partnerships to strengthen water-based tourism and safety infrastructure. Accordingly, the Tourism Department signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the National Institute of Water Sports (NIWS), Goa, and Odisha Fire & Emergency Services (OFES) to enhance capacity building, strengthen safety standards, and bring in advanced technical expertise across Odisha’s rapidly evolving watersports ecosystem.
