New Delhi, June 22: The primary membership of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), world’s largest political party, crossed the 14-crore mark, said the party’s national general secretary B. L. Santosh on Saturday.
Taking to his ‘X’ handle, Santosh said that though the mega macro campaign has been halted, booth-level activities have enabled the organization to surpass 14 crore members.
“Primary membership of @BJP4India has crossed the 14-crore mark. A great effort… every worker at the booth level. Though we have stopped the mega macro campaign, booth-level activity has made it possible to cross 14-crore membership,” he wrote.
Notably, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the first to become an active member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) when he launched the party’s nationwide 'active membership campaign' on October 16 last year.
The event, attended by BJP national president J.P. Nadda and Vinod Tawde, who leads the National Membership Campaign, marked the next phase of the party’s 'Sangathan Parv Membership Campaign-2024'.
PM Modi shared photos of the event on X, saying he was proud to be the first active member of the BJP.
Explaining the requirements for becoming an active member, PM Modi mentioned in a post, "To qualify as an active member, a worker must register at least 50 new members within a booth or an assembly seat. This will make them eligible to contest elections for the Mandal Committee and higher roles within the party. These workers will be given ample opportunities to serve the party in various capacities in the future.”
PM Modi first launched the BJP's National Membership Campaign on September 2 last year at the inauguration of the party’s central office expansion.
By October 15, 2024, the campaign—called the 'Sangathan Parv Membership Campaign-2024'—had crossed nine crore members. In Uttar Pradesh alone, the BJP claimed to have reached over two crore members.
With the completion of the first and second phases, the third phase of the campaign began, aiming to grow the party’s base of active members.
