Bhubaneswar, June 2: Odisha is gearing up to welcome the country's two highest dignitaries, with President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi likely to visit the state on June 19 and 20, respectively.
According to Mayurbhanj MP Naba Charan Majhi, President Murmu is expected to arrive in Rairangpur on June 19, while Prime Minister Modi is likely to visit the town the following day. Information regarding the President’s proposed visit has reportedly been received from Rashtrapati Bhavan, and preparations for both visits are already underway.
The President and the Prime Minister are expected to participate in the inauguration of a newly constructed stadium in Rairangpur. Several developmental projects in and around the region are also likely to be launched, inaugurated or dedicated to the public during their visits.
Sources said Prime Minister Modi may lay foundation stones for multiple infrastructure and development projects in Mayurbhanj district, particularly in the Bamanghati region. The visits are expected to highlight the Centre and State government's focus on accelerating development in northern Odisha.
The proposed visit holds special significance as Rairangpur is the hometown of President Droupadi Murmu. During her stay, the President is also likely to visit Pahadpur, her in-laws’ village, sources said.
If the itinerary is finalised as expected, Mayurbhanj will witness the presence of both the President and the Prime Minister within a span of two days, making it one of the most significant VIP engagements in the district in recent years.
While local authorities have initiated preliminary preparations, the detailed schedules of both dignitaries are yet to be officially announced. Security and logistical arrangements are expected to be finalised once the final programme is approved.
