Cuttack, Aug 22: Mahanga Police is responsible for my wife’s tragic death, said Shankar Das, husband of Rasmita Das, who charred herself to death before the Mahanga Police Station in Odisha’s Cuttack district.
Shankar, who was released from Jail to perform the death rituals of his wife who succumbed to burn injuries in the SCB Hospital & Medical College on Wednesday said, “My wife Rasmita appealed the Mahanga police to release me from the hazat as I was locked up in connection with a false burglary case leveled against me, but in vain. Getting no way out, she prayed the IIC and the Investigation Officer (IO) of the case to allow her meet me. However, the police were so cuel to grant it despite her humble submission.”
With grievous mental shock she took the extreme decision to commit self-immolation before the police station dripping petrol on her body, Shankar added.
Worth mentioning, Rasmita was rushed to the SCB Medical College & Hospital, Cuttack in a critical condition after she set her self ablze before the Mahanga PS.
