New Delhi, June 18: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will present certificates to more than 30,000 women from self-help groups, designating them as Krishi Sakhis, during an event in Varanasi on Tuesday. This initiative, led by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, aims to empower rural women across the country.
Krishi Sakhis are an integral part of the government's broader initiative to create 3 crore 'Lakhpati Didis'. The Krishi Sakhi Convergence Programme (KSCP) seeks to revolutionize rural India by empowering women, enhancing their skills through training, and certifying them as para-extension workers. This certification supports the objectives of the 'Lakhpati Didi' programme.

Selected for their roles as agricultural para-extension workers, Krishi Sakhis are trusted community resources and experienced farmers. Their established presence in farming communities ensures they are well-received and respected.
These women have already undergone 56 days of training in various extension services. Their training includes modules on agroecological practices from land preparation to harvest, organizing farmer field schools and seed banks, maintaining soil health, integrated farming systems, and basic livestock management.
On average, a Krishi Sakhi can earn between Rs 60,000 to 80,000 annually.
“Currently, these Krishi Sakhis are receiving refresher training with a special focus on Natural Farming and Soil Health Card through DAY-NRLM agencies,” stated the ministry.
After completing their training, Krishi Sakhis will take a proficiency test. Those who pass will be certified as Para-extension Workers, qualifying them to participate in various MoA&FW schemes and activities for a fixed resource fee.
