PM Modi links logistics expansion to stronger manufacturing capabilities
Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised how recent improvements in logistics and fintech are driving national development and strengthening manufacturing. Addressing the fifth edition of SEMICON India at Delhi's Yashobhoomi Convention Centre, he noted growing global trust in the Indian economy. Over the last 15 days alone, the nation has witnessed significant technological and infrastructural milestones. India has heavily prioritised digital public infrastructure and domestic chip production in recent years to reduce reliance on foreign supply chains.
Infrastructure fueling industrial growth
Highlighting recent achievements, Modi pointed to the completion of nearly 3,000 kilometres of dedicated freight corridors. These networks became fully operational within the first 10 days of September. This expansion will speed up domestic cargo movement and give fresh energy to local manufacturing sectors. He also mentioned the recent Global Fintech Fest in Mumbai, where discussions centered on agentic AI, quantum technology, and inclusive finance.
Blending tradition with modern tech
Speaking to domestic and international guests, the Prime Minister tied the three-day convention to Vishwakarma Jayanti. He extended greetings for the festival, honoring Lord Vishwakarma as a traditional symbol of construction and creation. Modi remarked on the synergy between these ancient cultural roots and our modern technological vision. Coinciding with this festival, the government is launching the PM Vishwakarma scheme to support traditional artisans and craftspeople. This initiative aligns localised skill sets with broader goals for a self-reliant nation. SEMICON India 2026 will run from September 17 to 19. Operating under the theme 'Silicon to Systems: Building the Ecosystem', the event aims to consolidate national capabilities across semiconductor manufacturing and electronics. By integrating robust supply chains and digital finance, leaders hope to position the country as a competitive force in global tech markets.
