Bhubaneswar, June 14: Organic mangoes appeared as the highlight of the three-day mango festival organised by NABARD, which concluded on Thursday at Nayapalli, Bhubaneswar. The event showcased a rich variety of organically grown mangoes cultivated by tribal farmers from across Odisha.
Tribal farmers from 23 districts participated in the festival, bringing more than 25,000 kg of mangoes. Popular varieties such as ‘Dusheri’, ‘Langda’, ‘Amrapali’, and ‘Mallika’ were available at pocket-friendly prices ranging from Rs50 to Rs 60 per kg.
With 16 stalls set up at the venue, over 50 farmers displayed their produce and engaged directly with buyers, creating a strong farm-to-market link. The festival served not only as a celebration of Odisha's mango diversity but also as a platform to promote organic farming practices.
BB Mohanty, Deputy General Manager of NABARD, highlighted the broader goal behind the initiative: “The organic mango festival is part of our mission to support sustainable agriculture and expand market access for small and marginal farmers. The response from both buyers and sellers has been very encouraging.”
Visitors praised the quality, taste, and affordability of the mangoes, making the event a sweet success for farmers and consumers alike.
