Srinagar, July 28: The security forces on Monday gunned down three foreign terrorists, believed to be involved in the April 22 Pahalgam attack, in an anti-terror operation codenamed “Operation Mahadev” in the Lidwas area near Dara in Jammu and Kashmir.
As per reports, “Operation Mahadev” is a joint operation by the Indian Army, CRPF, and Jammu and Kashmir Police which was launched early today morning after specific intelligence inputs regarding the presence of terrorists in the Mulnar area of Harwan were received.
“OP MAHADEV – Contact established in General Area Lidwas. Operation in progress,” the Army’s Chinar Corps posted on its official ‘X’ handle.
SSP Srinagar, GV Sundeep Chakravarty, stated that all three slain terrorists were Pakistani nationals affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
However, he did not confirm their involvement in the Pahalgam attack, noting, “We are in the process of identifying them and verifying that connection.”
According to reports, gunfire was first heard during the early part of the search operation, which led to more forces being sent in and the area being completely sealed off.
The search is still going on, and officials have not yet confirmed how many terrorists were killed or who they were.
If it's confirmed that those killed were involved in the Pahalgam attack, it would be a major success for the security forces. The attack on April 22 shocked the entire country when 26 tourists and a local resident were shot dead in cold blood in Baisaran Valley, Pahalgam, in south Kashmir.
The violent attack led to strong public outrage and a major anti-terror operation across the Valley.
The incident also sparked a brief armed clash between India and Pakistan, starting on May 7, 2025. This followed missile strikes by India on terrorist camps across the border, as part of a military operation called Operation Sindoor.
