Bargarh, Jan 14: Famous Dhanu Yatra in Odisha’s Bargarh district is going to kick-start tomorrow.
It’s why the Western Odisha town is all geared up for the curtains to go up on the annual Dhanu Yatra fesitvity, world’s largest open-air theatre, on Monday.
Dhanu Yatra is based on Krishna Leela and showcases the mythological story of Lord Krishna and his uncle king Kansa who was characterised as a demon.
During the festival, Bargarh transforms into Mathura. River Jeera symbolically represents the River Yamuna and Ambapali, which is located on the other side of Jeera, turns into Gopapur.
To mark the occasion, King Kansa’s Raj Darbar measuring 42 feet tall, 120 ft long and 35 feet wide has been constructed at Hatapada in Bargarh town. Similarly, his Ranga Mahal has been decorated with several arch gates, colourful drapes and decorative lights.
King Kansa will perform on 14 stages that have been constructed at different locations in the town during the 11-day festival till January 25, based on the episodes of Shri Krishna Lila.
