Puri, July 6: Odisha’s Pilgrim City Puri is witnessing a high influx of devotees for the Suna Besha, the golden donning of deities scheduled on Sunday.
A sea of devotees has already gathered on the Grand Road before the Shrimandir from early in the morning whereas thousands are yet on the way that is expected to reach the Bada Danda before the noon.
In response to the heavy rush and the input, the Odisha Police has issued a traffic alert to control the crowd in a comprehensive way.
The segregation of vehicles based on pre-issued passes has been temporarily suspended due to excessive inflow on account of the Suna Besha.
According to the traffic advisory issued by the police, vehicles entering Batagaon and Malatipatpur are asked to move slow if they are rushing for Puri early before the noon. They are advised to wait and watch at two major transit points marked by the traffic police and proceed accordingly.
According to police, most of the designated parking zones within the city have already reached maximum capacity. Thus, visitors are asked to park their vehicles pretty away from the town at their convenient places and walk to the Grand Road.
According to the latest updates from police officials, parking is now being facilitated only at Talabania and Sterling, subject to availability. Thus, visitors have been advised to check space availability before proceeding to the temple zone.
Security forces and traffic personnel have been deployed in large numbers to manage crowd movement and ensure a smooth darshan of the Suna Besha, scheduled to begin in the afternoon.
Apart from the physical instructions, the Puri Police and the district admin are disseminating public information regarding traffic status and real time crowd movement through SMS, live telecast and miking.
