Jajpur, March 23: Police arrested a youth in connection with life threat to former Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) Chief Jayadev Jena.

The accused has been identified as Harmohan Barik, a resident of Nuagaon village in Jajpur district.

Barik had allegedly threatened Jena on Whatsapp message demanding a ransom or Rs 50 lakh.

Based on a complaint filed by Jena, the Nandipada Police initiated an investigation and nabbed Barik from Jajpur.

The accused has been arrested based on digital evidence. He will be sent to judicial custody after interrogation and complying with other legal formalities, said the Keonjhar SDPO.

Worth mentioning, the accused was sending frequent messages to Jena in which he was threatening him to kill if the said amount is not paid. Anticipating danger out of it, Jena had sought police protection for him and his family.
