OMC Tackles Sickle Cell Anemia with Mobile Health Campaign

On the occasion of World Sickle Cell Day, the Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) launched a significant awareness campaign focused on the prevention of Sickle Cell Anemia. This important initiative was carried out in rural areas located near OMC's mining operations, aiming to educate local communities about this critical health issue.

The campaign was effectively delivered through OMC's flagship mobile health van program, known as "Arogyabahini." Special awareness camps were organized in several key mining regions, including Jiling, Daitari, Laxmipur, Kaliapani, Shuakati, and Sereda, which fall under the operational areas of Koraput, Keonjhar, Jajpur, and Barbil. During these camps, healthcare professionals provided the public with vital information about Sickle Cell Anemia. They explained the causes of the disease, methods of prevention, and details about managing the condition, creating widespread public awareness.

This campaign is part of OMC's broader commitment to community health through its "Arogyabahini" initiative. This program currently operates with six mobile health units that actively serve 85 identified villages situated around OMC's mining sites. The "Arogyabahini" vans go beyond providing basic medical services; they make quality healthcare more accessible and convenient for people in remote areas.

Through this effort, OMC is bringing essential health services directly to the doorsteps of villagers. The program offers consultations with expert doctors, primary healthcare, free medicines, and preventive screenings. It also provides specialized health support and education. As a result of this sustained initiative, the "Arogyabahini" program has positively impacted the lives of more than 150,000 people, marking a major success in community healthcare.

OMC's World Sickle Cell Day campaign, powered by the "Arogyabahini" program, shows a dedicated approach to addressing key health challenges in rural Odisha. By combining direct medical intervention with public education, the initiative not only provides immediate relief but also empowers communities with the knowledge needed for long-term health and well-being.
