Odisha women prepare to conquer Mount Yunam this August

Eleven brave women from Odisha are preparing to climb Mount Yunam in Himachal Pradesh. This exciting all-women team plans to carry an 80-metre-long Indian national flag up to an impressive height of 20,100 feet. They will hoist the beautiful tricolour on Independence Day to celebrate deep patriotism and female empowerment. Mountaineering has slowly gained a loyal following in Odisha over the last decade, with local organizations inspiring a fresh generation to tackle tough Himalayan peaks.

Breaking new ground

Five seasoned climbers and five eager beginners make up this very special group. Thirteen-year-old Aradhya Jena is also a proud member of the expedition. Her active involvement beautifully shows the growing confidence and big dreams of younger people across the state. Their carefully mapped route goes straight through Solang Valley, Jispa, and Bharatpur before they finally reach Camp-I. Strict safety rules, positive teamwork, and protecting the fragile mountain environment remain their absolute top priorities for the final push.

Rigorous training brings results

Team leader Anita Swain views this high mountain as a wonderful chance to show what local women can truly achieve. She hopes their hard work will inspire other young girls to dream big. Taking the long tricolour to the top will serve as their highest tribute to the country, she explained proudly. Ganesh Jena, secretary of AASA, noted that the group spent several difficult months preparing for this major physical task. They worked intensely on physical fitness, high-altitude acclimatization, and strict climbing discipline. Every single step of their daily plan is very carefully organized.

Community backing pushes them forward

Subhasish Tripathy, managing director of Sanket Communications, expressed his strong personal belief in the climbers. He clearly stated that such bold and determined efforts need full backing from the whole society. He expects these dedicated women to return home not just with a great success story, but as true role models to motivate the vibrant youth of Odisha.
