Sambalpur, Oct 17: A woman and her son-in-law were killed, while five others sustained injuries after an SUV crashed into a road divider near Jamtal under Jujumura police limits in Odisha’s Sambalpur district late at night.

The deceased have been identified as Payal Das Gupta, 42, and her son-in-law, Shekhar Maharaj, 30. Both were residents of Raipur in neighbouring Chhattisgarh.

According to preliminary reports, seven members of a family were travelling in a Scorpio when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a road divider. The impact was severe, leaving the two passengers dead.

The injured were rushed to the hospital for treatment. The two deceased were taken to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), where doctors declared them brought dead.

The exact circumstances leading to the accident remain unclear. Jujumura police have launched an investigation into the incident.
