Acting on a tip-off, the forest officials conducted a raid in the Gania forest range under the Nayagarh Forest Division and seized a leopard skin along with weapons used in poaching activities.

The incident reportedly started when a leopard attacked a goat owned by Trinath Pradhan, a resident of Khalsahi village in the Gania forest range. In response, Trinath, along with Bimbadhar Nayak and Ramachandra Dalabehera, allegedly used electric traps and guns to kill the leopard sometime between December and January.

According to forest officials, staff from the Nayagarh Forest Division worked with the Mahanadi Wildlife Division to carry out a successful operation based on reliable information.

During the raid, they found the leopard’s remains and a shotgun at Trinath’s house. Meanwhile, two other suspects are still on the run and have not been arrested yet.

DFO Khyama Sarangi said, "The leopard skin is about 2 feet in body length and around 6 feet in total length. During questioning, the accused admitted that they killed the leopard sometime between December and January. They said they did it because the leopard had killed their goat."

Further investigation into the matter was underway.
