Bhadrak, Apr 30: In a tragic incident, a seven-year-old girl drowned in Mantei River in Basudevpur block of Odisha’s Bhadrak district on Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as Jhili, daughter of Arjun Maiti, and the incident has been reported from Jagannath Prasad panchayat.
According to sources, Jhili had visited her maternal grandfather’s house in Mishrapur with her mother. While playing alone near Mantei River in the afternoon, she accidentally fell in.
When she didn’t return home, her family members began a frantic search for her. They also carried out a search for her in the river, but in vain.
With no other option, the family members contacted the fire department.
Upon getting the information, the fire fighters arrived at the scene and rescued Jhili after an extensive search. Thereafter, she was rushed to Basudevpur Community Health Centre, where the attending doctors declared her dead.
Upon getting the information, police arrived at the hospital and seized the body before sending it for post-mortem.
Further investigation into the matter was underway.
