Odisha Pollution Control Board issues guidelines for Diwali firecracker safety

Bhubaneswar, Oct 14: The Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB) has issued strict guidelines for bursting firecrackers during Diwali to reduce pollution and ensure public safety. The Board has advised that firecrackers should only be burst between 7 PM and 9 PM on Diwali evening.

Here are the key instructions issued by the OSPCB for this year's Diwali celebrations:

Celebrate with Diyas: Light diyas (oil lamps) to celebrate Diwali.

Time Limit for Firecrackers: Firecrackers are allowed only between 7 PM and 9 PM.

Avoid Loud Firecrackers: Keep a safe distance from firecrackers that generate excessive noise.

Burst Firecrackers in Open Areas: Only burst firecrackers in open spaces.

Avoid Crowded Areas: Do not burst firecrackers near public places or busy areas.

Keep Children Safe: Ensure that children, especially those under 10, are kept away from loud firecrackers.

No Firecrackers Near Sensitive Zones: Do not burst firecrackers near parks, hospitals, courts, schools, and religious places.

Wear Proper Clothing: It is advised to wear cotton clothes while bursting firecrackers to avoid any accidents.

Keep Water or Sand Nearby: Always have water or sand nearby when lighting firecrackers for safety.

Avoid Handheld Firecrackers: Never hold firecrackers in your hand; always place them on the ground before lighting them.

Maintain Safe Distance: Always maintain a safe distance while bursting firecrackers.

Handle Unfired Crackers Carefully: If a firecracker does not ignite on the first attempt, do not try to light it again.

Protect Animals and Birds: Keep pets and animals away from firecrackers' smoke and noise.

Protect Vulnerable Individuals: Ensure that the elderly and people with respiratory conditions stay away from firecracker smoke.

Wear Eye Protection: It is recommended to wear glasses while bursting firecrackers to protect your eyes.
