Bhubaneswar, August 1: Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water and Rural Development Minister Rabi Narayan Naik on Saturday asked the officials of flood affected districts to submit preliminary reports of damage of roads and drinking water projects within three days.

The Minister said that at least 15 districts have been affected in the flood in the State.

He directed officials of Panchayati Raj Department and Rural Development Department officials to visit the affected areas and assess the situation and prepare repot.

“At least 15 districts have been affected in the flood in the State. Instructions have been issued to the Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Department officials to visit the flood-affected areas. Drinking water is being provided to the affected people through mobile van. Similarly, several roads have damaged due to the flood. So, officials have been asked to asses the damage and submit proper repot within three days,” said Naik.

He said that Revenue Inspectors are unable to visit the affected areas due to flood water.

Meanwhile, ten districts in the downstream of the Mahanadi have been put on high alert as the Hirakud Dam kept discharging water into the river through 22 gates on Saturday, inundating low-lying areas.

The deluge has hit more than 8.34 lakh people, damaging civic infrastructure and hectares of cropped land.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who returned to Bhubaneswar on Friday night after a four-day visit to the national capital, conducted an aerial survey of the flood-hit areas along with Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari and senior officers.
