Bhubaneswar, Aug 11: A young man, not a student of Utkal University in Bhubaneswar, was found dead in mysterious circumstances on the varsity in Vani Vihar campus today.
The deceased, identified as Biswa, worked as a driver for a BJD youth leader. He is believed to have died after falling from the roof of a hostel building.
As per reports, police recovered the blood-stained body near Boys’ Hostel No. 3 early in the morning and sent it to Capital Hospital for a post-mortem.
After the incident, university students questioned why hostel rooms were being given to non-students while many enrolled students were still waiting for accommodation.
Students alleged that despite repeated demands for a campus free of non-students, alcohol, and drugs, drug peddling is on the rise. He said the death of a non-student in such circumstances and attacks on students by outsiders show that campus safety is at serious risk, holding the Vice-Chancellor and the administration responsible.
They also called for a thorough investigation into both recent and past incidents.
The students also sought answers on who was allotted the hostel room and who allowed the non-student to stay there.
