Bhubaneswar, Ap 24: With temperatures in Odisha breaking record after record and intense heatwave disrupting daily life, the state government is considering announcing an early summer vacation. Heavy rainfall in some areas and extreme dryness from the coast to the western districts has added to the challenges of public life, prompting authorities to take precautionary measures.
The Minister of Mass Education, Nityananda Gond, informed on Thursday that summer vacation may begin from April 27. The proposal has already been discussed in detail with the Chief Minister, who will make the official announcement. A special meeting was held with discussions involving the Revenue Department.
Earlier, Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari stated that this year’s summer vacation could be declared early, with final decisions expected within a day or two. After discussions between the Revenue and Mass Education Departments, a proposal has been sent to the Chief Minister. A joint meeting with the State Resource Center (SRC) was also conducted to coordinate the planning.
Minister Pujari assured that arrangements would be made for food distribution if Anganwadi centers are closed during the vacation period.
The state has already witnessed severe heat conditions, prompting many districts to announce school closures. As temperatures continue to rise, more than 18 districts have declared holidays, while some districts are even extending vacation periods to ensure the safety and well-being of students.
