Bhubaneswar, June 15: Odisha Government on Sunday issued a high alert in response to the increasing number of diarrhoea cases reported across several districts of the state.
The Housing and Urban Development (H&UD) Department issued the high alert and called for immediate action from all Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and district officials to address the rising public health concerns.
Principal Secretary of the H&UD Department Usha Padhee emphasized the need for heightened vigilance and close monitoring of water sources, particularly in vulnerable urban areas. The aim is to ensure the safety and sanitization of water supplies to prevent further outbreaks of diarrhoea.
"Prevention is key. We must act swiftly to protect our communities and stop the spread of this disease," said Smt. Padhee. She further highlighted the importance of coordinated efforts between the H&UD Department and the Health and Family Welfare Department to contain the situation.
Key Measures Taken:
- Inspection and Sanitisation of drinking water sources to ensure they meet safety standards.
- Identification of Potential Hotspots and a rapid response to prevent further outbreaks.
- Coordination with the Health Department to implement effective interventions.
- Public Awareness Campaigns focusing on hygiene practices and sanitation.
Additionally, the H&UD Department is conducting emergency water quality checks, increasing sanitation drives, and running awareness programs to prevent any further spread of the disease, especially during the pre-monsoon period when such outbreaks are more likely.
Citizens are strongly urged to consume only safe drinking water, practice good hygiene, and immediately report any symptoms of diarrhoea to the nearest health facility or urban health officials.
The department is working closely with local authorities to ensure a swift and coordinated response to protect public health across the state.
