Bhawanipatna, Aug 10: The Odisha government suspended senior OAS officer Akshyamita Kartik on Saturday, days after her arrest by the Vigilance department, which seized Rs4.92 lakh unaccounted cash from her official vehicle.
Akhyamita Kartik, the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Golamunda Block in Kalahandi district, was apprehended by Odisha Vigilance on August 1. The officials intercepted her near Jaring, between Bhawanipatna and Junagarh, while she was en route to Koraput.
Vigilance sleuth had recovered a substantial amount of cash—Rs 5 lakh—from her possession, which they suspect was collected as a bribe.
Worth mentioning, Kartik was previously suspended for misappropriation of COVID funds during her tenure in Kosagumuda, Nabarangpur district.
Earlier in 2018, Akhyamita had allegedly misappropriated Red Cross funds when she was posted as Tehsildar of Gunpur in Rayagada district and the district administration filed a police complaint against her in this regard.
