Bhubaneswar, Mar 3: In light of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, the Odisha government convened a high-level meeting on Tuesday to assess and ensure the safety and well-being of Non-Resident Odias (NROs) residing in the region.
The meeting, held under the direction of Chief Minister Mohan Majhi and chaired by Chief Secretary Anu Garg, focused on the necessary preparations to protect Odias living abroad. CM Mohan Majhi emphasized the importance of heightened vigilance and urged senior officials to implement prompt actions as the geopolitical situation continues to evolve.
Helpline numbers issued for Assistance
To provide support to those in need, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) of the Government of India has launched a 24-hour toll-free helpline at 80046342 and a WhatsApp helpline at +971543090571. Additionally, the Odisha government has set up a dedicated contact number for the Odisha Parivar Independent Nodal Officer: 9583321964.
Suryabanshi Suraj, the Minister for Sports and Youth Services, shared the government’s actions on social media platform X. He informed that a joint working group has been established, involving the Directorate of Odisha Parivar, the State Home Department, the State Labour Directorate, and various organisations focused on the welfare of Non-Resident Indians (NRIs). This group will be responsible for coordinating assistance and spreading vital information.
In his post, Minister Suraj acknowledged the wartime emergency situation in the Middle East and highlighted the state government's efforts to provide support and ensure seamless communication. He urged individuals in the affected areas to reach out to the designated helplines if they require assistance or encounter any difficulties.
The Odisha government continues to monitor the situation closely and is committed to ensuring the safety of its citizens abroad.
