Bhanjanagar (Ganjam), July 25: Odisha police busted a gambling den operating in the dense forest in Bhanjanagar subdivision of Ganjam district and arrested 19 individuals in this connection.
The cops also recovered Rs 4 lakh in cash, along with two cars and five motorcycles from their possession during the raid and seized them.
As per reports, the gambling racket had been running secretly in the dense forest near Patadhar village under Jagannathprasad police limits in Bhanjanagar. The remote location made it hard for the police to find and stop the operation until now.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team under the supervision of senior officers from the Jagannathprasad police station, who stated that the illegal activity had been tracked for several weeks, conducted the raid and made the arrests.
Authorities believe the gambling den might be connected to a larger network operating in nearby areas.
Further investigations are underway to find other possible locations and people involved in the racket, said the police.
