Bhubaneswar, July 31: In a display of extraordinary dedication amidst the devastating floods in Odisha’s Kendrapara district, a doctor braved waist-deep water to ensure a pregnant woman received urgent medical care.
When Sanghamitra Raut of Chakibanka village went into labour, the roads leading to her home were completely submerged due to the rising waters of the Brahmani river. With ambulances unable to reach the flooded area, Dr. Rashmi Ranjan Mohanty, a medical officer at the Rajnagar Community Health Centre, stepped in without hesitation.
Dr. Mohanty, along with his team, reached Ms. Raut’s residence and carefully placed her on a cart. He then personally helped ferry her through floodwaters to a point accessible by ambulance. From there, she was taken to the community health centre where she received the necessary treatment.
The incident highlights the grim flood situation in the region, where several villages have been cut off due to incessant rains and overflowing rivers. Despite the challenges, frontline workers like Dr. Mohanty continue to serve with unwavering commitment.
