Bhubaneswar, July 3: In a tragic turn of events, a couple from Odisha’s Nayagarh district was killed in a road mishap while on their way to perform the last rites of the husband’s father.
The deceased have been identified as Raj Kishore Sahu and his wife Minakshi Sahu, residents of Gania area in Nayagarh. They were residing in Nuapada area of Kalahandi district as Raj Kishore worked there.
As per reports, the mishap took place near Nuapada on the National Highway 57 that connects Boudh, Khordha, and Balangir when the couple was reportedly traveling back to their native village from Nuapada after hearing the sad news of demise of Raj Kishore’s father. They were en route to perform his final rites.
According to eyewitnesses, the couple's car crashed into a truck that was parked by the roadside on the highway. The mishap took place when the car tried to overtake another vehicle but didn't see the parked truck in time and crashed straight into it.
The collision was so strong that both Raj Kishore and Minakshi died on the spot.
Upon getting the information, police arrived at the spot and seized the bodies. Subsequently, they were sent for post-mortem.
A case has been registered and further investigating into the case is underway to find out the reason that led to this tragic accident, said the police.
