Bhubaneswar, October 19: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has decided to observe Durga Puja and Dussehra in a low-key manner this year in view of the widespread damage caused by incessant rainfall and floods across several districts of the state, said an official release on Monday.
According to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), as a mark of solidarity with the affected people, Majhi will not visit Durga Puja pandals during the festive celebrations across the state.
The decision comes against the backdrop of widespread devastation caused by continuous rainfall and flooding, which have disrupted normal life and dealt a severe blow to livelihoods across the state.

The agricultural sector has been among the worst affected, with large areas of farmland and standing crops damaged by the floods. The losses have added to the financial woes of farmers, many of whom depend on the current agricultural season for their livelihood.
While Durga Puja and Dussehra are celebrated with enthusiasm across Odisha, the Chief Minister has decided to refrain from festive celebrations expressing concern over the plight of farmers and flood-hit families.
Chief Minister also visited several flood-affected districts to personally assess the extent of the damage and take stock of the relief and restoration activities.
