Bhubaneswar, October 2: On 155th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and the 10th anniversary of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi felicitated sanitation workers of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) during a ceremony held at Swaminathan Hall, OUAT.
He praised their tireless efforts in maintaining cleanliness and promoting public health, highlighting the indispensable role they play in society.
Majhi also referenced Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Ek Ped Ma Ke Naam’ initiative, aimed at planting 5 crore trees in Odisha, noting that 4 crore 40 lakh trees have already been planted.
He also emphasized the transformative impact of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan on cleanliness standards nationwide, commending the Bhubaneswar Metropolitan Corporation for their effective waste management and clean-up campaigns.
The Chief Minister further said that cleanliness is a collective responsibility and a national movement, not confined to Bhubaneswar or Odisha.
He attributed the city’s national recognition for sanitation to the dedication of sanitation workers. In acknowledgment of their service, Majhi honored five workers: Sukanti Singh, Janaki Behera, Abhimanyu Gochhayat, Rama Naik, and Sarat Naik.
On this occasion, Union Minister Bhupender Yadav and Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan also addressed the audience, emphasizing the need to appreciate the contributions of sanitation workers and manual laborers to society.
