Bhubaneswar, Aug 13: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Deputy CM Pravati Parida and Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday condoled the death of veteran actor Gopal Sahu, fondly known as Eli, who captivated audiences as the demon King Kansa at Dhanu Yatra for a quarter-century.
Taking to his X handle, CM Majhi wrote, “Deeply saddened to hear the news of the passing away of Gopal Sahu, former Kansa Maharaj who performed for a long time in the world famous Bargarh Dhanu Yatra. His flawless acting was his biggest identity. I will offer prayer to Lord Jagannath for the eternal peace of the departed soul and extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved family. Omm Shanti”.
Expressing grief over the death of Sahu, LoP Naveen Patnaik wrote, “I am saddened to learn of the passing away of veteran actor Gopal Sahu, who earned acclaim for playing the role of Kansa Maharaj in the world famous Bargarh Dhanu Yatra. He will be remembered for his contributions to promote Odia art, culture and creating awareness in the society about the role of Kansa Maharaj. May his soul rest in peace and my condolences to the bereaved family members”.
Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida also condoled the death of Sahu and wrote: “I am extremely saddened and heartbroken to hear about the passing of Gopal Sahu, who had performed the role of Kansa in the world-renowned Dhanu Yatra of Bargarh. I offered my prayers for the eternal peace of his departed soul and extended my deepest condolences to the bereaved family.
