Bhubaneswar, July 29: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday reviewed the flood situation in Odisha and assured that the safety of every citizen remains the government's top priority amid heavy rains and flooding in several districts.

In a post on X, Majhi said he is monitoring the situation continuously and has reviewed flood management and relief measures with the Chief Secretary and the Special Relief Commissioner. He directed the administration to ensure the safety of people in affected areas and appealed to citizens not to panic, urging them to follow official advisories.

To strengthen flood response, the state government has deputed three senior IAS officers to oversee evacuation, relief and rescue operations in the worst-hit districts of Balasore, Bhadrak and Jajpur. The Special Relief Commissioner's office and the State Emergency Operations Centre have also been directed to function round the clock to monitor water levels and coordinate emergency measures.

NDRF, ODRAF, Fire Services and police teams have been placed on high alert to evacuate people from vulnerable areas. The government has ensured that flood shelters are equipped with drinking water, cooked food, medical facilities, anti-venom injections and cattle fodder.

Police have been instructed to intensify night patrolling in flood-hit villages to safeguard evacuated residents' property, while officials have also been directed to provide immediate compensation for damaged houses and farmland.

Several parts of northern and western Odisha are witnessing flood-like conditions following incessant rainfall, with rivers including the Baitarani and Salandi flowing above the danger mark, prompting intensified rescue and relief operations.
