Bhubaneswar, August 1: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday assigned senior ministers specific responsibilities to monitor relief and rehabilitation operations in flood-affected districts, aiming to strengthen the state's response to the ongoing flood situation.

The decision was taken after the Chief Minister conducted an aerial survey of the flood-hit areas earlier in the day to assess the extent of damage and review the situation.

As part of the new assignments, Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo will oversee relief and rehabilitation work in Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur districts. Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida has been entrusted with monitoring operations in Baleshwar, Bhadrak and Jajpur.

Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari has been assigned responsibility for Puri district, while Panchayati Raj and Rural Development Minister Rabinarayan Naik will supervise relief efforts in Mayurbhanj and Kendujhar.

The state government has also directed other ministers to visit their respective districts as in-charge ministers to closely monitor relief distribution, rescue operations and rehabilitation measures.

According to the Chief Minister's Office, the move is intended to improve coordination, accountability and the speed of relief efforts, ensuring timely assistance reaches affected families.

With water levels remaining high in several rivers and low-lying areas continuing to face inundation risks, the enhanced ministerial oversight is expected to strengthen coordination among district administrations, disaster response agencies and local authorities, helping expedite relief and recovery operations.
