Bhubaneswar, August 1:The Odisha Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, on Saturday approved 11 key proposals across six departments, including a Rs 2,995-crore tribal welfare programme, four major irrigation projects, amendments to the GST Act, and the Odisha State Legal Services Cadre Rules, 2026.

The Cabinet meeting was held at the Conference Hall of Lok Seva Bhawan in Bhubaneswar.

Among the major decisions, the Cabinet approved the Chief Minister's Tribal Livelihood Mission 2.0 (Mukhyamantri Janajati Jeevika Mission 2.0), a flagship initiative with a financial outlay of Rs 2,995 crore aimed at improving the livelihoods of Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities.

The programme will be implemented in 134 blocks across 19 districts, providing financial assistance of Rs 30,000 to every eligible ST family in two instalments. The assistance is intended to support sustainable livelihood activities, enhance household income, and strengthen the economic well-being of tribal families.

The Cabinet also gave its approval to the Odisha State Legal Services Cadre Rules, 2026, which seek to streamline the state's legal services administration and strengthen the institutional framework for legal governance.

Briefing the media after the meeting, Chief Secretary Anu Garg said the Cabinet approved a total of 11 proposals covering six major departments, reflecting the government's emphasis on infrastructure development, welfare, and administrative reforms.

The Water Resources Department accounted for five proposals, underscoring the government's focus on irrigation and water management projects. The Housing and Urban Development Department presented two proposals, while one proposal each was approved from the Finance Department, Law Department, ST & SC Development, Minorities & Backward Classes Welfare Department, and the Agriculture & Farmers' Empowerment Department.

The Cabinet's decisions are expected to strengthen irrigation infrastructure, expand livelihood opportunities for tribal communities, improve tax administration, and enhance the efficiency of legal services across the state.

Officials said the approvals reaffirm the Odisha government's commitment to inclusive development, improved governance, and timely implementation of key developmental initiatives across the state.
