New Delhi, August 4: Congress MP R. Sudha from Tamil Nadu’s Mayiladuthurai constituency has raised serious concerns about women’s safety after falling victim to a chain-snatching incident in Delhi’s high-security Chanakyapuri area. Expressing shock and distress, Sudha said, “There is no safety for women in this country. I’m still in shock. What about common women—where will they go? A woman CM is ruling this state. Where is the security?”
The incident reportedly took place during her morning walk when an unidentified man snatched her gold chain and allegedly tore her clothes. “I shouted for help, but nobody on the road came forward. I was more concerned about fixing my clothes than the chain at that moment. The attacker fled immediately,” she said.
Sudha later approached a police patrol team near the Tamil Nadu Guest House. However, she alleged that the response was indifferent. “They took our names and phone numbers and asked me to come to the police station to file a complaint. I then called Congress MP Manickam Tagore, who sent help. Priyanka Gandhi took me to the Speaker to submit a complaint. I’ve also written to the Home Minister and am awaiting a response,” she added, noting that she continues to suffer from shock and trauma.
Commenting on the incident, Congress MP Pramod Tiwari criticized the deteriorating law and order situation in the national capital. “Gang wars, murders—such incidents have become routine in Delhi, which is under the jurisdiction of the Home Ministry. It seems there is no law and order under the BJP government,” he said.
