Bhubaneswar, 26/03/2026: The Special Observer (Human Rights Education and Gender Equality) of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Professor Kahneya Tripathy, visited AIIMS Bhubaneswar. During the visit, Professor Tripathi reviewed various measures taken by AIIMS Bhubaneswar in the areas of human rights education, equality in patient care, and gender-sensitive healthcare practices.
Additionally, a detailed discussion was held with the Executive Director of AIIMS, Professor (Dr.) Ashutosh Biswas, along with senior faculty, administrative officers, and departmental representatives.
The NHRC Independent Observer praised AIIMS Bhubaneswar for its excellent implementation of human rights policies in the regular medical practices, ensuring quality healthcare services. Professor Tripathy highlighted that equal access to healthcare, informed consent, patient respect, and non-discrimination were essential components of a rights-based healthcare system.
On this occasion, a proposal for the establishment of a dedicated Human Rights Cell at AIIMS Bhubaneswar was discussed. This cell would address patient grievances effectively, conduct awareness and sensitivity training programs, and organize workshops for healthcare professionals, ensuring adherence to NHRC guidelines.
Supporting the idea of establishing a Human Rights Cell and maintaining high standards in patient care, Executive Director Dr. Ashutosh Biswas expressed full cooperation in strengthening the existing healthcare system in alignment with NHRC directives. Dr. Biswas assured that efforts would continue to further integrate human rights principles into all healthcare practices at AIIMS.
The meeting was also attended by senior officers such as Dr. D. P. R. Mahapatra, DDA Lieutenant Colonel Abhijit Sarkar, and Registrar Dr. Sudipta Ranjan Singh, along with other senior officials.
