Keonjhar, June 27: A newborn baby boy was rescued from a bush near Raghunathpur village under Saharpada block of Odisha's Keonjhar district on Saturday, police said.
According to reports, the infant is suspected to have been abandoned shortly after birth. Local residents heard the baby's cries coming from a bush and rushed to the spot, where they found the newborn lying alone.
The villagers immediately informed the police and an ASHA worker. By the time the child was rescued, he had suffered several ant and insect bites, leaving visible marks on his body.
Police and the ASHA worker reached the spot and shifted the baby to Udaypur Medical Centre in a 108 ambulance for immediate treatment.
The condition of the newborn is being monitored by doctors. Police have launched an investigation to trace the person or persons responsible for abandoning the infant.
